Description
Fungia Plate Coral (Fungia fungites) – Neon Green
The Neon Green Fungia Plate Coral (Fungia fungites) is a highly sought-after, free-living Large Polyp Stony (LPS) coral. Taxonomically, while the genus Fungia once held over 30 species, it was revised in 2015 to contain just this single true species (Fungia fungites). Originating from shallow, sandy reef zones across the Indo-Pacific and Australia, this solitary single-polyp coral grows into a flat or dome-shaped calcareous plate.
The Neon Green variety is celebrated for its incredible actinic fluorescence, inflating its bright, fleshy tissue up to twice its skeletal size to absorb light and ward off sand burial.
Care Tips:
- Moderate (Excellent first LPS)
- Suitable for beginners moving from soft and LPS
- Requires stable water conditions
- Grows well under moderate to high light (50–150 PAR)
- Likes moderate indirect flow, to sweep detritus and sand off its disc.
- Place on the sand bed only.
- Temprement is semi-aggressive as they possesses venomous, short sweeper tentacles.
