Description
Montipora Digitata – Orange Branching
The Montipora Digitata branching coral, often referred to as the Finger Coral or Velvet Finger, is a highly popular Small Polyp Stony (SPS) coral originating from the shallow reefs of the Indo-Pacific and Great Barrier Reef. It features an elegant upright, tree-like growth form with finger-shaped branches coated in a velvety carpet of bright polyps. Because of its hardiness and fast growth, it serves as an excellent “gateway” species for reefers looking to venture from Large Polyp Stony (LPS) corals into the demanding world of SPS corals.
Care Tips:
- Moderate (Excellent first SPS)
- Suitable for beginners moving from soft and LPS to SPS
- Requires stable water conditions
- Grows well under moderate to high light (150–350 PAR)
- Likes moderate to strong / turbulent flow
- Place on middle to upper rockwork
- Peaceful temprement but poorly defended
