sera Internal 300L

The sera internal filter L 300 is a classic air-operated sponge filter. This unit requires an external air pump to function and is designed specifically for biological and mechanical filtration in smaller or specialized tanks.

Features:

  • Safe Intake: The fine-pored sponge prevents fry and fish larvae from being sucked into the filter.
  • Modular Design: The sponge can be easily removed for cleaning or replaced when it eventually wears out.
  • Quiet Distribution: Designed for even air distribution, which helps reduce the “gurgling” noise often associated with older sponge filters.
  • Dimensions (WxHxD):18 x 36 x 6.5 cm, making it a tall, vertical unit that fits well in the corners of standard-height tanks.  Sponge (2x) 14 x 6.7 x 6.7

Benefits:

  • Gentle Water Flow: Provides necessary filtration without creating strong currents that can stress delicate species like Betta fish or slow-swimming larvae.
  • High Biological Surface Area: The optimized sponge structure provides a massive surface area for beneficial nitrifying bacteria to colonize.
  • Oxygenation: Because it uses air bubbles to move water, it simultaneously provides excellent surface agitation and oxygen exchange.
  • Cost-Effective: Extremely energy-efficient as it only requires a small air pump to operate.

Tips:

  • Required Equipment: Remember that this is not a standalone powered filter. You must have an air pump and standard 4/6mm airline tubing to use it.
  • Maintenance “Rule of Thumb”: Never wash the sponge in tap water. The chlorine will kill the beneficial bacteria. Always squeeze it out in a bucket of used aquarium water during your water change.
  • Check Valve is Mandatory: Just like with CO2 reactors, if your air pump is located below the water level, you must use a check valve in the airline to prevent water from siphoning back into the pump during a power outage.
  • The Squeeze Start: When you first place the filter in the tank, squeeze the sponge several times underwater to release trapped air. If the sponge stays buoyant, it won’t filter effectively.
  • Adjustable Flow: You can control the “power” of this filter by adjusting the airflow on your air pump or using a small plastic air valve in the line.
