Description
NP BioPearls
NP BioPearls are pelletized biodegradable polymers that promote the development of aerobic bacteria which then consumes nitrate and phosphate in the water. The bacteria will use up the carbon from the BioPearls, whilst nitrogen and phosphorus are taken from the water as nitrate and phosphate. This conversion of organic BioPearls (together with inorganic nitrogen and phosphorus) into microbial biomass is called immobilization. In addition, anaerobic layers will develop, resulting in additional denitrification.
The BioPearls should be placed in a fluidized filter, reactor or mini filter canister and a sufficient water flow maintained through the BioPearls to prevent production of hydrogen sulphide gas which can occur if water flow is stopped for a reasonable length of time.
BioPearls must be introduces in a successive way to prevent sharp changes in water parameters and allowing marine animals to adapt slowly to the change.
400ml NP BioPearls and includes a 10ml spoon
Example for a 200L aquarium
First week – 50ml
Second week – 50ml
Third week – 50ml
Later – 50ml
Important Note
The use of NP BioPearls in marine aquariums must be accompanied by the use of a protein skimmer to achieve the export of bacteria and assimilated nutrients. The use of ozone and UV will negatively affect bacterial recruitment.
