Description
RO Membrane 100 gpd
The AquaticLife 100 GPD RO membrane is a Thin Film Composite (TFC) reverse osmosis membrane designed for residential and aquarium/hydroponics use. It serves as the core filtration stage in AquaticLife’s RO and RO/DI systems, such as the Classic series, RO Buddie, and Twist-In models. It removes a wide range of impurities from tap water by forcing water through a semi-permeable membrane under pressure, concentrating contaminants on the waste side while producing purified permeate (product water)
Membrane Features:
- Type: Polyamide Thin Film Composite (TFC) membrane with a negative charge that helps repel and remove harmful substances (e.g., heavy metals, salts, and dissolved solids).
- Purpose: Reduces Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) and contaminants down to 1/10,000 of a micron. It targets arsenic, lead, parasitic cysts, copper, and many other dissolved impurities (typically achieving high rejection rates).
- Rated Capacity: 100 Gallons Per Day (GPD) — approximately 4+ gallons per hour under ideal conditions (65 PSI water pressure and 77°F / 25°C water temperature). Actual output varies with pressure, temperature, feed water quality, and system design.
- Lifespan: Typically 1–2 years (or up to 2+ years with proper care, pre-filtration, and periodic flushing). Replace when TDS rejection drops below ~95% (e.g., if permeate TDS exceeds 5% of feed TDS).
- Standard size (Item 330093): 11-3/4″ long, spiral-wound and tape-wrapped. Fits AquaticLife Classic, RO Buddie, and many other brands’ standard RO housings.
Specification:
- Material: Polyamide TFC (made in USA for some versions).
- Dimensions: 11-3/4″ length.
- Operating Conditions:
- Pressure: Ideal 65 PSI; Minimum ~30–35 PSI (booster pump recommended below ~40 PSI); Maximum 80–100 PSI (use regulator if higher).
- Temperature: Ideal/optimal 77°F (25°C); Operating range 39–100°F (4–38°C); do not exceed 105°F (40.5°C) or 100°F at high pH.
- pH Range: 2–11 (continuous).
- Free Chlorine Tolerance: <0.1 ppm (pre-carbon filter is essential to protect the membrane).
- Feed Water Limits: Max turbidity 1 NTU; Max silt density index (SDI) 5.
- Minimum Concentrate Flow: 4× permeate flow (to maintain proper flushing and prevent fouling).
- Rejection Performance:
- Removes up to 98% of TDS (typical real-world range 95–98%; lab ratings for similar 100 GPD membranes often list 96–98.6% stabilized rejection).
- System-level waste-to-product ratio (rejection rate): Typically 1:3 to 1:3.5 (e.g., 1 gallon of purified water produces 3–3.5 gallons of waste). Can improve with a booster pump.
