Description
Seachem Reef Dip 250ml
Seachem Reef Dip is a coral disinfectant formulated to clean and protect corals in reef aquariums. It uses elemental iodine complexed with a protective slime coat to effectively combat bacteria, fungi, and protozoans. Designed for both prophylactic (preventive) and remedial (treatment) use, it is safe for stony corals (SPS/LPS), soft corals, anemones, and polyps, making it a versatile solution for maintaining coral health.
Sizes: 250ml
Benefits:
- Effective Pathogen Control: Targets bacteria, fungi, and protozoans, reducing the risk of infections in corals.
- Protective Slime Coat: Enhances iodine efficacy by forming a barrier that prolongs contact with infected areas and helps prevent reinfection.
- Safe for Sensitive Corals: Gentle formulation minimizes stress on delicate corals like zoanthids and palythoas, unlike harsher dips that may cause “burning” or tissue damage.
- Versatile Application: Suitable for disinfecting new corals before introduction or treating diseased corals, supporting both preventive and curative care.
- Supports Coral Recovery: Anecdotal reports suggest it can help revive stressed corals, such as shriveled brain corals, when used correctly.
- Ease of Use: Simple dipping process makes it accessible for hobbyists of all experience levels.
Features:
- Elemental Iodine Complex: Delivers targeted disinfection against bacterial, fungal, and protozoan infections.
- Protective Slime Coat: Maintains iodine at the infection site and aids in preventing reinfection.
- Broad Compatibility: Safe for stony corals (SPS/LPS), soft corals, anemones, and polyps.
- Prophylactic and Remedial Use: Can be used to prevent infections in new corals or treat existing issues in established tanks.
- Targeted Application Option: Allows direct application of concentrate to lesions for severe infections.
How to Use:
Preparation:
- Prepare a separate dipping container (not the main aquarium).
- Take 4 L (1 US gallon) of water from the source aquarium and place it in the dipping container to maintain consistent water parameters.
Dosing:
- Add 5–10 mL (1–2 capfuls) of Seachem Reef Dip to the 4 L of aquarium water and mix thoroughly.
- For severe infections, use a double dose (10–20 mL).
- If lesions are visible and accessible, apply the Reef Dip concentrate directly to the lesion before placing the coral in the dip solution.
Dipping Process:
- Remove any invertebrates (e.g., crabs, shrimp, snails) from the coral, as they are sensitive to iodine.
- Place the coral in the dip solution for 15–30 minutes, depending on the severity of the issue.
- Monitor the coral for signs of stress, such as excessive sliming, and shorten the dip time if necessary.
Post-Dip:
- Rinse the coral in clean aquarium water to remove residual dip solution.
- Return the coral to the main aquarium and observe for any signs of stress or continued infection.
Precautions:
- Do not use in the main aquarium, as it may harm fish and invertebrates.
- Avoid using with Tridacna clams, as they are sensitive to iodine (some aquarists use a highly diluted solution at their own risk).
- Not effective against hydroids, algae, or specific pests like Acropora-eating flatworms (AEFW) or Montipora-eating nudibranchs (MENs).
